The Peanut Butter Substitute
Concerned About the Peanut Butter Recall?
There is a current(January 2009) FDA recall on certain types of peanut butter and peanut paste. This ONLY affects bulk peanut butter used as an ingredient in manufactured food products or in foodservice applications.

If you use bulk peanut butter you can switch to a product that will eliminate the recall problem, simultaneously avoid the peanut allergy issue and maintain the quality you demand.
Why is a substitute necessary?

The use of peanut butter is being threatened in response to the peanut allergy issue. Because the severity of a peanut allergy attack can be quickly fatal, institutions such as schools, camps and day care centers are increasingly refusing to serve peanut butter. And the fear of transmitting or contracting the allergy has caused many OB/GYNs and pediatricians to recommend that pregnant/nursing women and children under three years old not consume peanuts/nuts. These actions effect primarily non-allergic individuals who consider peanut butter an indispensable part of their diet. They do not want to give it up because it represents a combination of nutrition, convenience and acceptability unlike anything else. If uncontrollable circumstances prevent using peanut butter, then a substitute that avoids the peanut/nut allergy problems, but delivers all the desirable characteristics of peanut butter would be in great demand.
